Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans
Last week, the Republican Party of Virginia’s Executive Committee met to determine who would win their annual awards. There are 5 awards that are handed out by RPV each year, and they are as follows:
The Kay Coles James Award for Traditional American Values
The Richard Obenshain Award for Unit of the Year
The RPV Volunteer of the Year
The Terrence Boulder Award for Enduring Conservative Values
The Virginia Governor’s Award for Unit Chair of the Year
After consulting with a few members of 6th Congressional District Staff, I, John Massoud, the Chairman of the 6th Congressional District, nominated the following people for RPV Awards:
Doug Smith (Rockbridge Area Republicans) for Unit Chair of the Year
Page County for Unit of the Year
Charla Quimby for Volunteer of the Year.
I am pleased and humbled to announce that Charla Quimby was awarded the title of Volunteer of the Year for 2024. Charla won this award by ensuring that, as there were breakdowns in the FCRC, thanks to Charla’s hard work, each precinct was filled on election day, and that during early voting, the FCRC had ample volunteers each and every day during the 45 day voting period. Charla helped organize a letter writing campaign, and a door knocking campaign, and thanks to Charla and her band of volunteers, the Frederick County GOP swept all but 2 County and State Legislature elections. Charla has been a shining light when it comes to Republican values in Frederick County, and is the standard by which all volunteer activists should be judged by.
Page County finished 2nd in the voting statewide for Unit of the Year. Page was nominated for the 2nd year in a row for their ability to get their Republican vote totals up, in some cases by over 50%. Page has gone from a 60-40 Republican county to a near 80-20 Republican county. Page County took back their School Board, and now has a conservative majority on the Board of Supervisors. When we talk about taking back Virginia, Page is the standard that other rural counties should be judged by.
Doug Smith, Chair of the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee, has been at the helm since 2018. Doug took over a unit that had been in some state of disrepair, and has shown us how to win inside smaller cities, with the City of Buena Vista having a 62-38% majority when it comes to elections. Doug’s RARC is a model of how a Unit should work, with there being good volunteer participation inside all facets of the County. Doug helps host many local events and is a Professor with the Virginia Military Institute. Doug has been a leader when it comes to Virginia heritage and the need to preserve history as it really was, not the improper version that is currently being taught our students.
If you know either Charla or Doug, please take a few minutes to congratulate them both. And for you in Page County, thank you for all that you do to take back Virginia!
I remain
your servant
JM
